Letter from a Parent...
SAC stands for School Advisory Committee.
The SAC board is created by a selected group of teachers, parents,
and community members. The Principal also attends as a non-voting
member. The committee discusses and advises what is important to
the school in terms of money expenditures and time expenditures.
In other words, what happens to the school grounds physically and
what is done within the classrooms with your child. They are your
collective voice.
This
is an open meeting and your participation as a parent is important.
This is how you can have a meaningful input into the activities, curriculum,
building site, and rules your child is subject to every day at school.
If you want your opinion to be heard you may either attend the meeting
yourself or contact a SAC member with your view. Which is best? Come
to the meeting. Why? There is an open discussion at the end of the
meeting and topics discussed are not available prior to the meeting.
Does
this meeting go on endlessly without much direction? NO. The meeting
is run using parliamentary procedure. This means the parliamentarian
is responsible to keep issues at a maximum of 3 minutes disximum of
3 minutes discussion time. This is NOT a complaint session, it a place
to effectively voice your concern and propose potential solutions.
It is also where you will learn about the projects the school will
be working on in the near and long term future.
Do
you have any views you would like to see expressed?? Do you agree
with the statement that some parents would not bring their children
to school in the evening for a holiday performance? Did you know you
are partially responsible for your children knowing the school rules
regarding the playground? Do you know the school policy regarding
playing outside in foul weather? Become
an active part of your child's education and let your opinion be heard.
Remember, that the only opinion the committee will hear are those
who attend the meetings or those who express their opinion prior to
the meeting to a SAC member.
