The Early Intervention Program is taught at AFNORTH Elementary School
in the Netherlands. The program is a federally mandated
program serving 3 to 6 year old children with identified special
needs in one or more of the following areas:
- Speech and Language
- Motor Skills
- Behavior / Social
- Cognitive (thinking)
- Self-help
The program serves both the Geilenkirchen and AFNORTH communities. Services include:
- Developmental screenings
- Developmental information and resource materials for parents
- Full evaluation of student if appropriate (parent permission required)
- Placement in program if children qualify based on specific eligibility
requirements
- Speech, language and occupational therapy provided by trained therapists as appropriate
The Early Intervention classroom maintains a schedule similar to a apreschool or kindergarten
classroom; however, emphasis is placed on developing specific language,
cognitive, and social skills appropriate to the individual child's
needs. Research has shown that early intervention and placement
into a program designed to meet these individual needs can help children
avoid serious learning problems when they reach school age. Parents
are encouraged to call for more information or to set up a screening
appointment at any time by calling 0031-455-278275 or the AFNORTH
Elementary School at 0031-455-278251. You may also contact
the Teacher of the Communication Impaired on Monday, Wednesday, or
Friday here at James Van Dierendonck Elementary School -- 02451-903080. |
